Athors, Authors and More Authors

Last week many of our students were exposed to several different authors via the use of recorded interviews. It is very costly to have authors come in person to the school, so I was thrilled to be able to secure DVDs and videos through other schools.

1st and 2nd graders got the chance to meet author Bill Peet, Stephen Kellogg and Norman Bridwell via videos.

3rd graders worked on map skills and learned about Jargon.

4th graders continued learning about Plagiarism and how to create citations on the online program by the Oregon State Library Information System (OLSIS)

C-5, C-6, M-1 and M-2 got to hear from the author Ben Mikaelsen How to Get to the Heart of the Story. In this 1 hour DVD students heard Mr. Mikaelsen tell how he came up with the ideas for several of his books. It was my privilege to hear Mr. Mikaelsen speak in person last year at Waldo Middle schoo. I was told that the author visit cost $1800.00, so I feel blessed to have been able to show our students this wonderful author for free with the help of the Waldo Library Media teacher.

We are also continuing to help students catch up with work they have missed due to being absent. We are also checking to see how well each grade level can locate Everybody, Fiction and Nonfiction books in the Library with all the skills they have been taught throughout the year.
