Another Busy Week In Media
This week in the Library Kindergarten students were treated to the wonderful stories by Alexandra Day all about Carl the Dog.
First graders worked on reviewing parts of a book and then looking more closely at the Table of Contents and Index and how they are used to locate information in a non-fiction book. We have been spending more of the Library Media time on the computers, as well as, doing a variety of activities.
Second graders looked into both Table of Contents and Index like the first graders just more indebt, but they also began learning what a dictionary is for and how it is organized. Some second grade classes spent time on the computer doing an online activity that allowed them to place words in alphabetical order.
Third graders wrapped up their Hamster projects and began looking into the ways a dictionary is organized, paying special attention to guide words and alphabetical order.
Fourth graders completed their Power Point projects and endangered Microsoft Word posters this week. Some students in the fourth grade are looking into movie editing in Movie Maker.
Firth graders completed their Power Point projects as partners and are now creating a simple PowerPoint project all about themselves by themselves. Also some fifth graders are learning how to use the computer Thesaurus.
All in all it has been a very busy week in Library Media!

What Is Happening In Library?
Last week and this week....
1st and 2nd graders we have been reviewing the concepts of ABC order (with 1st) and number order (with 2nd), as well as, reviewing parts of a books with special emphasis on the title page of a book. Our story for the week was Roller Coaster by Marla Frazee. What a fun book with great illustrations. Ask your child about this book. B-1 second graders have been using library time to work on their animal research project. B-2 created posters in Microsoft Word for advertisement of the up and coming crazy hair day.
All 3rd grade classes continued to work on their Hamster Project. Many have printed and bound their reports. How very exciting.
4th graders in C-4 have been working with the Thesaurus reference book and understanding how to use this book for better writing.
4th graders in C-1, C-6, M-1, M-2 are completing their Endangered Species PowerPoint projects.
5th graders in C-5 are working to improve their Microsoft Word Endangered Species posters, as well as, completing their unit on maps and reading maps.
5th graders in M-1 and M-2 are now creating their PowerPoint scrapbook about their virtual travel experience that they have been taking over the past few weeks. They have been using the internet as they visited tourist attractions , as well as, National Parks in the Western United States.
The highlight of this week has been to see students printing these projects, as well as, seeing students who added hyperlinks to live webcams and education videos in their projects.

S.O.R. Losers by Avi
Yes, you read that right. S.O.R. Losers by Avi was a delightful book to read this weekend. Full of humor and great dialog, with very real characters you can relate to. This sports book thought has a twist. S.O.R. Losers is a humorous book about a group of intelligent and talented, but non-athletic, seventh grade boys who are required to participate on a soccer team at their sports-minded school. What's wrong with accepting the fact that you stink at sports? Based on real life experiences of Avi himself this comedy is worth reading. (And for those curious Avi fans, I've heard you'll find his last name spelled backwards in this book!)
