A Few Of My Top Picks From The Book Fair

I'd like to post a few of my top picks of the book fair, so here they are in no particular order.

Star Of Kazan by Eva Ibbotson is a great story full of mystery and intrigue. It has deep meaning of family and friendship. It is not for the faint of heart as it is 416 pages long but you will not regret this pick. Girls may be more interested in this book yet, there are several very intersting male characters who play key roles in this story. I give it 5 stars in my review!

Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo was a great read. I had hear about this book through another media teacher and couldn't wait to read it. Again full of mystery and suspense a well crafted tale of the effects of WWII. This book has a bitter sweet ending but is still so worth the read. Another 5 star book

Shredderman Secret Identity by Wendelian Van Draaren. How could I not mention Shredderman. A great read for both boys and girls with a wide range of appeal for reading level.

I hope you find many books you will enjoy reading at the book fair. Ü

United Streaming Adds A Wealth Of Knowledge

United Streaming is the latest in technology to come to Harritt Elementary. We are privileged to be among the few elementary schools in Salem-Keizer to be able to access this website.

Some of the the upper grades took a few minutes to explore this website in media this week. We will be using it more in the weeks and months to come.

Below is the link and all you will need to get started is the student log on and password. Your student should know this information or you can email me and request this information.

Due to the nature of the district contract with United Streaming I am unable to post the user name and password on the this blog.

What's Happening In the New Year In Media

We started the New Year off and running with a variety of activities in library media.

Kindergarten was treated to the Book "The Mitten" by Jan Brett. This next week we will be looking at book care as we prepare to begin checking out books following the Scholastic Book Fair.

First and Second graders began a unit on maps. We learned what some of the different types of maps there are, as well as, what we might find on a map to better help us understand reading a map (symbols, key, scale, compass rose) Some of the second graders did a creative writing project that you will see in the hallway as we featured the book "The Mitten Tree" by Candace Christiansen in class. First Graders mapped "The Mitten" by Jan Brett as well as worked on our skills of recall, retell, and sequencing.

Grades 3-5th began making Scholastic Book Fair posters in Microsoft Word to hang in the hallways and send home with younger Harritt/WSLA students. These skills were a review of many of the skills we had learned prior to the Winter Break as they worked on editing skills on Nursery Rhymes.

The Book Fair Is Coming!!

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming! We are looking forward to another great book fair at Harritt this year. The book fair will run Jan 18-Jan 25th from 8:30-9:00 AM and 3:15-3:45 PM.

We will also be open during the Family Fun Night on Wednesday, Jan 24th ...
and during the lunch time on Thursday Jan 25th 11:15-1:15 for Grandparents Day.

We look forward to seeing you and all the wonderful books brought to Harritt by Scholastic Book Fairs. If you would like to see a preview online of the books that will be offered at our book fair, click on the link below.
